How to create a vision board of the life you want to live (and why it’s so powerful)
Creating a vision board is a really powerful exercise when it comes to creating a life you love.
If you’re struggling to figure out what you want your life to be like, then creating a vision board can help you tune into what it is that you want in your life.
And if you already have a clear idea of what your dream life is about, then creating a picture of that dream life can act as a powerful tool as you make that dream life real.
Having it up on your wall can act as a daily reminder of what your focus in 2019 is, so that no matter how busy life gets when the new year kicks into action, you won’t forget what is most important to you in life.
Here is how to create a vision board:
You will need:
A3 piece of paper or card
Three or more magazines
What to do:
Get your hands on at least three magazines that have images that you like and that you don’t mind ripping up (friends, family and charity shops can be a good source of unwanted magazines).
Make your way slowly through each magazine, ripping out images and words that make you find yourself drawn to or that relate to your dreams and visions written out in your Goodbye Hello journal.
If you can’t find certain images that you want to add to your vision board then try finding them online - unsplash.com and Pinterest are great resources for inspiring images.
Once you’ve got a good selection of images, colours and words you can start to arrange them on your A3 canvas.
You can follow your own lead if you want and just place images where you like or you might want to divide your page out into different areas of your life that you want to focus in on.
Here are some ideas of sections you might want to represent on your page:
Health & Wellbeing (including wealth)
Relationships with others
Relationship with yourself
Travel & Adventure
Fun & Play
Self expression & creativity
Growth & Learning
You might have already decided that there is a clear focus to your 2019 and you want to depict that in this vision board. You might not yet want to limit yourself to just thinking about 2019.
Feel into it when you’re at the page and do whatever feels right to you
Build up your picture, lightly sticking things down and then as parts of the page start to feel right to you add more glue and firmly stick the images and words in place
If you want to add paint or pen to your vision board too then go for it.
Remember, you are not trying to create a work of art here. Leave your perfectionism at the door. Have fun with this like you might have as a kid. Play with it. Enjoy the process and enjoy seeing what emerges on the page.
When you’re finished doing your vision board, take a step back and write down what themes you see emerging. What does it tell you about the life you want to live, how you want to live and what you want to fill that life with?
